Tyler Perry donates $100,000 to Bishop Marvin Winans after he was criticised for berating female church member over her donation

Tyler Perry just donated $100,000 to Bishop Marvin Winans’ Perfecting Church in Detroit after footage from a fundraising event sparked public backlash.

The now-viral moment happened during the church’s “Day of Giving” on October 19, when Bishop Winans asked the congregation to donate.

In the middle of the service, longtime member Roberta McCoy gave $1,235 “in faith,” but instead of gratitude, she was publicly ridiculed.

“That’s only $1,200,” Winans told her.

When McCoy said she’d bring the remaining $800 later, Winans responded, “Well, that ain’t what I asked you to do.”

The clip drew criticism online, with many accusing the pastor of embarrassing a loyal member over her offering.

Days later, both Winans and McCoy spoke out.

“He absolutely did not rebuke me,” McCoy said. “There was a correction, because pastor gave instruction on the lines to get into.”

Winans explained he was calling donors “by increments” to keep the flow of the service, and later apologized to McCoy directly.

Known for supporting churches and community causes, Perry’s $100K donation signals strong support for the church and its longtime building project on 7 Mile and Woodward, which has been underway since 2002.

Fans have called out Perry online for seemingly supporting the pastor’s poor behavior in the pulpit. However, he appears unfazed by the criticisms.
