Mohammed Ismail Sherif (born 9 January 2002), professionally known as Black Sherif or formerly Blacko, is a Ghanaian rapper, singer, and fashion model. He is widely known for his unique blend of highlife, drill, and trap influences, combined with deeply reflective lyrics.

He gained widespread recognition in 2021 following the release of his songs “First Sermon” and “Second Sermon”, both of which went viral in Ghana and beyond. His major breakthrough came in March 2022 with the release of the hit single “Kwaku the Traveller”, which topped Apple Music charts in both Ghana and Nigeria. The song’s music video has since garnered over 27 million views on YouTube.

Black Sherif released his debut album The Villain I Never Was on 5 October 2022, receiving critical and commercial acclaim. In April 2025, he dropped his second studio album titled Iron Boy, showcasing artistic growth and lyrical depth.

Early Life and Education

Black Sherif was born and raised in Konongo-Zongo, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Due to his parents working abroad, he was raised by his aunt and extended family. This early exposure to diverse environments helped shape his worldview and musical style.

He began his education at Konongo Zongo Islamic Basic School and later attended Pinamang Educational Complex for junior high. He completed secondary education at Kumasi Academy, where he actively participated in the school’s Literary Group, developing his passion for music and dance.

He initially enrolled at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), and later continued his education at the University of Ghana. He also secured a notable fashion partnership with the Italian sportswear brand ellesse.
